Mexico GP: Highlights

Well don’t say I didn’t warn you this was a fierce GP. Lap 1 resulted in the elimination of Tsunoda and Mich Schumacher and also saw a turn 1 crash between Bottas and Ricciardo both of whom ended in the bottom of the grid.

The GP ended with a double podium for Redbull with Max in first followed by Hamilton and Perez.

Verstappen took the lead following the yellow flag and kept Hamilton at bay very easily in an amazing show of force. Hamilton was actually pressured by Perez in a battle for P2 till the very last lap as Max went on to lead by 16.5s.

Perez managed to become the first Mexican driver to lead a lap in his home GP. He did manage to have a remarkably good race.

Ricciardo and Bottas battled throughout the entire race with Ricciardo holding place for the entirety of the race in a class defensive drive. Bottas then had a 12 second slow pit stop which might have been the final nail in the coffin for some, but the Finn closed the gap quickly even though he couldn’t manage to overtake the Australian. He gave up the chase and ended up swapping to softs to steal the fastest lap from Redbull.

As I predicted Ferrari stole P3 from Mclaren. DR’s racing incident cost them precious points on such an important weekend. LeClerc and Sainz finished in P5 and 6 respectively.

All in all, even though Hamilton still has a shot at the title, Max and the Redbull team really have cemented their victory this season. Their car is too quick and the team has an amazing synchronicity right now.
